The 20 Best Cafes in Da Nang

The 20 Best Cafes in Da Nang

Coming up: little vans, massive rooms, one dystopian hellscape, some tucked-away decaf coffee, lots of coconut cream, a super-tasty tiramisu, and the 20 best cafes in Da Nang.

Right now, I’m living in Da Nang.

And with the exception of Chiang Mai, I don’t think I’ve ever been anywhere with a denser concentration of cafes.

The 20 Best Cafes in Da Nang Pin

Here, you get local spots, remote-worker joints, brunch cafes, foreigner favorites, hyper-basic outdoor offerings, places for good food, places for good coffee, some surprisingly-swanky fancyfests, and everything in between.

So, coming up, we’ve covered all that and more: today, your backpacking buddies at Travelness are bringing you the 20 best cafes in Da Nang!

Note: Vietnam’s currency is the Vietnamese Dong (VND). The current exchange rate is 25,900VND to $1USD. You can’t pay in US Dollars here—but to make things a bit more understandable, I’ve listed all prices in the USD equivalent. Cos most people understand dollars. Soz if you don’t.

Note #2: The VAST majority of the cafes we’ve listed here are in and around the My An area. That’s for three reasons: it’s where the best cafes are, it’s where most foreigners stay, and it’s the part of the city I know best.

XLIII Specialty Coffee (also known as 43 Factory Coffee Roaster)

Best for: tasting the very best coffee in Da Nang

So far, in terms of flavor, this is the best coffee I’ve had in Da Nang:

The brews here are nuanced and flavor-packed, with loads of different taste profiles. After choosing your beans, you get a little card describing the flavors to look out for, along with info on where the beans have come from. Some coffees are fruity, some are sour, some are bitter, all are tasty.

I’m not a huge fan of the aesthetic; it’s got that minimalistic science-lab vibe that seems to be really common nowadays. Other features include lots of windows, lots of natural light, and lots of pretense.

You won’t find many locals here. Instead, you’ll find lots of digital nomads, and plenty of Korean and Japanese tourists.

As a nice bonus, they do decaf, which is very rare in this part of the world.

Vietnamese Super Sweet Milk CoffeePin

For actual good coffee, this is absolutely one of the best cafes in Da Nang. That said, it’s VERY expensive—around 2-2.5x what you’ll usually pay in other Da Nang cafes.

  • Address: 422 Đ. Ng. Thì Sĩ, Bắc Mỹ An, Ngũ Hành Sơn, Đà Nẵng
  • Website
  • Average coffee price: $4.30USD
  • Average food price: $7USD for some bread with toppings

H Coffee

Best for: eating Russian pancakes, and looking at some fish

Wooden, rustic, open-plan, and mainly outside, H Coffee is cute and cozy. It sort of feels like some little secluded cabin in a forest… except it’s right in the middle of the city.

Broadly speaking, the audience here seems to be one-third locals, one-third chatting foreigners, one-third coworking foreigners.

The coffee is good if not great, they do lots of smoothies, juices and teas, and they have a small menu of noodles, sandwiches, and rice dishes. Weirdly (or maybe not so weirdly, given the number of Russians in Da Nang), they specialise in tasty Russian pancakes.

Pro Tip: Head to the little koi carp lake outside H Coffee. Walk close to the fish and they’ll think you’re gonna feed them. Maybe you could ask the staff if you can feed them. I didn’t.

Cộng Cà Phê

Best for: slurping on super-strong coffee… and feeling like you’re in a war bunker

Want coffee that’ll blow your head off and give you a giant anxiety attack?

If so, you’ll think this is one of the best cafes in Da Nang.

(I’m partially joking, but the Vietnamese Cộng Cà Phê chain is known for serving up super-strong coffee).

I’ve only been to one of these in Da Nang (which is the one I’ve listed—there are actually four of them), but I’ve been to loads of these in Hanoi. They all have an aesthetic inspired by the Vietnam War (and that’s why the cafe is named after the Viet Cong).

So: expect lots of green, lots of war memorabilia, servers dressed in sorta-army uniforms, and lots of 50s-70s relics and miscellany (like lamps, typewriters, and postcards).

I love this place. Most people love this place. You will too. The vast majority of the coffee is traditional Vietnamese—and the vast majority of customers are Vietnamese.

  • Address: An Thượng 6, Hoàng Kế Viêm, Bắc Mỹ Phú, Ngũ Hành Sơn

Bamboo Bob Coffee

Best for: cheap drinks, frisbee talk, and supporting local projects

These guys buy beans from local farms, use some of their profits to support local community projects, and grow their own coffee. The cafe itself has a laid-back pared-back vibe, with lots of wooden furniture—it’s not as fancy or modern as many of Da Nang’s most popular cafes.

Cafe CoffeePin

They also have a deal with Fly Burger, one of the best burger joints in Da Nang. You can have their food delivered here—and getting a Fly Burger (including delivery) will cost you less than $4USD.

The staff are very friendly, it’s very open-plan, you get lots of fresh air, it’s usually not very busy, and last time I was here, the owner gave me a free frisbee. All in all, it feels halfway between a local cafe and a touristy one. Highly recommended.

  • Address: 66 An Thượng 29, Bắc Mỹ Phú, Ngũ Hành Sơn

  • Average coffee price: $1.05USD
  • Average food price: $1.90USD for a regional-speciality beef noodle salad

HI4 Coffee & Workspace

Best for: feeling like you’re sitting inside an office canteen

I personally think HI4 Coffee & Workspace is a futuristic dystopian hellscape, but other people seem to like it.

It’s ideal for remote workers who want peace, quiet, a sanitized atmosphere, and to feel like they could be anywhere on the planet. It’s ALWAYS full of white-faced remote workers, and you see very few locals here.

You’re not allowed to talk loudly (they will tell you to be quiet), all the drinks come in plastic cups, the food is bland microwaved nothing, one half of the cafe is made of weird little secluded booths where you sometimes find people sleeping, and the whole place feels like an office pretending to be a cafe (not a cafe where people also happen to work).

It’s like someone took a self-service checkout, then inflated it into cafe-sized proportions.

This is the future, and it’s bleak.

Dark CoffeePin

Overall, purely for being productive, this is one of the Best cafes in Da Nang. Otherwise, it’s horrible.

It’s open 24/7.

  • Address: 120 Mai Thúc Lân, Bắc Mỹ Phú, Ngũ Hành Sơn
  • Website
  • Average coffee price: $1.35USD
  • Average food price: $1.55USD for a plate of spaghetti

Cafe Cửa Ngõ

Best for: visiting a good example of a trendy-but-rustic Vietnamese cafe

Many of Vietnam’s popular-with-locals coffee shops have a specific vibe.

That vibe is:

  • Rustic
  • Packed with old furniture
  • Intentionally made to look decayed and dilapidated
  • Featuring faded pastel colors, and old unusual furniture
  • Full of odd miscellany, like Vietnamese flags, retro photos, and weirdly-shaped vases

In short, these cafes sort of look like antique stores. And you’ll find them EVERYWHERE in Vietnam. Of all the ones I’ve visited in Da Nang, this is the best.

Apart from all the above, other highlights include friendly staff, a quiet location on a local street, and excellent coconut coffee (a Vietnamese specialty which includes coconut milk and coconut cream).

Caddy of CoffeesPin

It doesn’t have a website, so it’s a little more low-key than most other places we’ve brought you. And it’s usually pretty quiet.

  • Address: 02 Trần Bạch Đằng, Phước Mỹ, Sơn Trà
  • Average coffee price: $1.25USD
  • Average food price: N/A

Aeroco Specialty Coffee

Best for: natural light, excellent coffee, and low price avocado on toast

Another popular spot with remote workers, Aeroco Specialty Coffee is small, cozy, and quiet. But because it’s all glass-fronted, it feels pretty open and spacious… and it’s a good spot for people-watching.

Cold Brew CoffeePin

The coffee is great (the western-style stuff is especially good), they have great kombucha, their fruity coldbrews are full of flavor, and the food menu features a small selection of pastries, smoothie bowls, and eggs and avocado on toast.

For affordable, high-quality food mixed with top-class coffee, this is one of the best cafes in Da Nang. The indoor area is good for working; the outdoor area is good for sitting with a book.

  • Address: 9 An Thượng 40, Bắc Mỹ Phú, Ngũ Hành Sơn
  • Website
  • Average coffee price: $1.80USD
  • Average food price: $2 USD for egg and avocado on toast

A-Kopi Coffee

Best for: some of the city’s best coffee, overlooking the city—and grabbing a post-drink pizza

All sleek and minimalistic, A-Kopi Coffee is packed with fancy equipment; one of those places that looks more like a science lab than a cafe.

For cold-brews, this is one of the best cafes in Da Nang. Featuring ingredients like mango, lemon peel, anise and cinnamon, they’re more like cocktails than coffees. Other menu highlights include a tiramisu-style coffee, and great kombuchas and cacao. They have a small food menu with sandwiches, noodles and croissants, but the food is nothing special.

It’s also one of the comfiest cafes in Da Nang. Home to lots of lounge chairs, it has two balconies, 4 floors, an open-plan rooftop, lots of windows, and excellent city views.

When you’re done here, head to the nearby branch of Pizza 4P’s. It serves up some of Vietnam’s best pizza.

Milk TeaPin

34 (or around)

Best for: real Vietnamese coffee around real Vietnamese people in a real Vietnamese cafe

Most (though not all) of the cafes I’ve listed here are favorites among most foreigners.

… that’s because I’m writing this guide for mostly foreigners (and I’m giving you what most people look for).

But if you want no-frills, no-pretense, not-fancy old-school Vietnamese cafes, where 90% of locals actually spend their time, 34 is for you. This is the sort of place I LOVE, and it’s what Vietnam is really all about.

34 doesn’t have a website or any branding, or even a menu. It simply has a banner above its storefront, with the number ‘34’ written on it. Maybe it’s not even actually the name of the cafe, I don’t know.

Expect tiny chairs, tiny tables, a tiny menu, tiny prices, and no other foreigners. They serve two things: Vietnamese-style coffees, and authentic experiences.

This cafe is over the river from the beach, so few foreigners hang out here. But this is the ‘real’ city center, where you’ll find most of the bustle. Surrounding 34, there are MANY places to eat, and drink, and get lost. Within a 2-minute walk from 34, you’ll find 5 or 6 other cafes, all serving up similar atmospheres and similar drinks. I recommend trying them all.

  • Address: 34 Đinh Tiên Hoàng, Thanh Bình, Hải Châu
  • Average coffee price: $0.50
  • Average food price: N/A

VUN

Best for: reading a book and drinking a healthy juice

Coffee and EspressoPin

I’m not the type of travel writer to relentlessly bang on about ‘hidden gems.’

… but if I was, this would be on my list.

Although it’s in the busy part of My An, VUN is set back from the action, on a little road that feels like it’s in the countryside.

They only have a small menu—Vietnamese coffee, western coffees, juices, cocoa, and matcha tea, with no food. The healthy juices (carrot, beetroot, orange, and all that sort of stuff) are tasty and affordable.

Overall, if you like quiet, cute and cozy, it’s one of the best cafes in Da Nang. It’s not the best place for work, and it’s a bit silent for socializing. But it’s incredible for reading a book.

  • Address: 9 An Thượng 39, Bắc Mỹ Phú, Ngũ Hành Sơn
  • Average coffee price: $1.25USD
  • Average food price: N/A
Traditional Vietnamese Coconut Ice CoffeePin

Puna Coffee & Cakes

Best for: slurping on a decaf coffee, a tasty salmon bagel, and munching on a tasty tiramisu

Puna Coffee & Cakes is home to decaf coffee, friendly staff, excellent cakes (on a rotating menu), and one of the tastiest tiramisus I’ve ever had.

The menu here is way bigger than most places we’ve brought you—including lots of western and Vietnamese coffees, and a bunch of hand-drip options. They also sell beans to takeaway (including the decaf ones—and they’ll grind them for you).

The food menu is also very hefty, featuring noodles, pancakes, burgers, smoothie bowls, eggs benedict, and plenty more. And it’s all tasty and affordable. I love this place, and I think you will too.

  • Address: 132 Lê Quang Đạo, Bắc Mỹ An, Ngũ Hành Sơn
  • Website
  • Average coffee price: $1.75USD
  • Average food price: $3.90USD for a smoked-salmon bagel

Dng.coffee

Best for: salt coffee, warehouse vibes, and some of the city’s best flavors

One of the best cafes in Da Nang for great coffee, one of the best cafes in Da Nang for remote working, and one of the best cafes in Da Nang in general.

I love this place. Super central, it has a once-was-a-warehouse exposed-brick aesthetic, along with friendly staff, big tables, and some of Da Nang’s best coffee. I come here at least 2-3 times a week.

Options include western-style coffees, standard-style Vietnamese coffees, and the best salt coffee I’ve ever slurped on (salt coffee is a big deal in this part of Vietnam). They also offer brunch classics, salads, smoothie bowls, cold brews, juices, croissants, and pain au chocolat.

It has a pretty mixed crowd; some foreigners, some locals, some normal people, plenty of hipsters. Highly recommended, and one of my favorites.

Oh, and if you like depressing hipster music like I do (like Lana Del Rey and Sufjan Stevens), you’ll love the place.

  • Address: 05 An Thượng 2, Bắc Mỹ Phú, Ngũ Hành Sơn

  • Average coffee price: $2.35USD
  • Average food price: $3.50USD for avocado and eggs on toast
Coffee Shops Da NangPin

Breco

Best for: eating around other expats, and munching on cut-price rice bowls

Famous for having some of the best low-price western food in Da Nang, Breco is a BIG expat favorite. Featuring an open kitchen, it’s small, it has great rice bowls, it’s very affordable, and they have both indoor and outdoor seating.

The coffee here is okay, but nothing special. But that’s alright—they have a huge menu of other tasty drinks, including smoothies, yoghurt smoothies, matcha lattes, juices, sodas, and tonics.

The food menu is really why so many people head here. It features brunch classics (expect lots of tasty eggs and avocados), many soups, a bunch of Vietnamese sandwiches, and some noodle dishes.

Vietnamese Phin CoffeePin

Overall, for a tasty-but-very-cheap meal with a wide range of options and a semi-western menu, you won’t find anywhere better.

  • Address: 49 An Thượng 2, Bắc Mỹ An, Ngũ Hành Sơn
  • Website
  • Average coffee price: $1.35
  • Average food price: $1.50USD for a rice bowl with meat and salad

REDRUCRO

Best for: slurping and sipping outside, and buying from a woman in a van

Not really one of the best cafes in Da Nang…

(… since it isn’t actually a building…)

… but this hyper-charming super-loveable place comes with a hefty reputation (with a 100% 5/5 rating on Google Maps).

Around Da Nang, you’ll find lots of little vans selling coffee. They all have basic little low-level seats outside, so you can get a low-price decent-quality coffee, and slurp on it in the sun.

Of them all, REDRUCRO has the best reputation. They do coffees (both Vietnamese and western), juices, smoothies, matcha teas, and excellent egg coffee and salted coffee. You’ll fall in love with the place.

  • Address: 28 Lê Quang Đạo, Bắc Mỹ Phú, Ngũ Hành Sơn
  • Website
  • Average coffee price: $1USD
  • Average food price: N/A

Roost Coffee Roasters

Best for: a wide variety of beans, sipping on top-class coffee, and getting away from the nomads

Another specialty coffee joint, and another of the best cafes in Da Nang.

Sitting a little more south than most other places we’ve brought you, Roost Coffee Roasters is just outside the expat epicenter of the city.

For that reason, it’s good for escaping all the remote workers (it’s still a relatively work-friendly place, but it’s not packed with laptop-toting freeloaders).

Anyway, they have a big sunny garden, two friendly dogs, a retro aesthetic, lots of flowers, and one of the biggest bean menus I’ve seen in Da Nang. Many people come here to buy beans, and lots of the city’s coffee aficionados reckon it’s the city’s best spot. Because they have a bunch of bean-filled jars on the counter, you can let your nostrils choose which flavors you’d like to slurp on.

Absolutely perfect for sitting with an early-morning coffee and a book.

Iced Coffee Cafe Da Nang VietnamPin

They don’t serve food.

  • Address: 57 Bà Huyện Thanh Quan, Bắc Mỹ An, Ngũ Hành Sơn
  • Website
  • Average coffee price: $2USD
  • Average food price: N/A

Roots

Best for: vegan food that even non-vegans love

If you’re looking for vegan food (or just food in general), this is one of the city’s best spots.

Vietnam CoffeePin

(and even if you’re normally a meat eater, you’ll be alright—I know lots of non-vegans who love this place).

Menu highlights include smoothie bowls, pittas, lots of topped toasts, a tofu version of ‘scrambled eggs,’ burgers, sandwiches, a ‘raw’ lasagna, and a plant-packed variation of the full English breakfast. For drinks, they have loads of juices, many cold-pressed detox drinks and shots, and a bunch of tasty ‘milk’shakes.

The coffee isn’t amazing, but it’s still passable.

  • Address: 26-27 Trần Bạch Đằng, Bắc Mỹ Phú, Ngũ Hành Sơn
  • Website
  • Average coffee price: $2USD
  • Average food price: $2.50USD for a smoothie bowl

Loving Vegan

Best for: vegan versions of some tasty Southeast Asian dishes

Egg Coffee VietnamPin

Another vegan spot, Roots and Loving Vegan sit only half a mile (800 meters) from one another.

While Roots is mainly western food, Loving Vegan serves up a bit more of an Asian menu. So although you can find salads, pizzas, smoothie bowls, sandwiches, burgers, and some international stuff here, most of the menu is noodle-based and rice-based.

Classics include stir-fried noodles, pad thai, bibimbap, pho, and various curries. And you’ll also find stuff you haven’t heard of.

For casual food, this is one of the best cafes in Da Nang. For good coffee, you’ll want to head elsewhere.

  • Address: 61 Lê Quang Đạo, Bắc Mỹ Phú, Ngũ Hành Sơn
  • Website
  • Average coffee price: $1.20USD
  • Average food price: $2USD for a rice dish

Rainbowl Poke

Best for: munching on healthy bowls of rice and toppings

These days, no matter where you go in Southeast Asia, you always seem to find a poke bowl* place.

*poke bowls are bowls, filled with rice, topped with healthy stuff, including (usually and traditionally, but not necessarily) some fish. They’re originally from Hawaii, but they fit in well in this part of the world.

Anyway, of all the poke places in Da Nang, Rainbowl Poke is the best of them. Full of flavor, color, and lots of healthy treats, they’re big and filling, and some of the best poke I’ve ever had. The place also serves up ‘sushi tacos,’ smoothie bowls, salads, smoothies, kombuchas, homemade frozen yogurt, and detox drinks (featuring ingredients like passionfruit, lemongrass, ginger, and kale).

The coffee is okay, but nothing special. Let’s be honest though—no-one’s coming here for a world-beating cappuccino.

  • Address: 95 Mai Thúc Lân Ngũ Hành Sơn
  • Website
  • Average coffee price: $1.40USD
  • Average food price: $6USD for a medium-sized poke bowl

Hômnay

Best for: friendly faces, sitting outside, and combining apple with cheese

Hômnay is always weirdly quiet. Partially indoors, mainly outdoors, it’s surrounded by lots of busy spots to eat and drink—but it’s never too busy.

… so if you’re looking for a quiet spot, it’s one of the best cafes in Da Nang.

Coffee and Croissant Cafe VietnamPin

The food menu includes brunch classics (like eggs Benedict, and a bunch of different toasts), along with decent salads, pastas, and burgers. If you’re looking for something a little different, I massively recommend the apple and peanut butter toast, featuring walnuts and surprise feta. Sounds like it won’t work, but very much does work.

They also have a charming on-site shop, selling candles, tote bags, notebooks, stickers, fridge magnets, and cute little souvenirs.

And as a nice bonus, the staff are SUPER nice—one of the friendliest cafes I’ve ever been to, anywhere on the planet.

  • Address: 31 An Thượng 29, Bắc Mỹ Phú, Ngũ Hành Sơn
  • Website
  • Average coffee price: $1.70USD
  • Average food price: $4USD for a big brunch dish

Umm Banh Mi

Best for: getting your lips around a big tasty sandwich

The banh mi is Vietnam’s most famous on-the-go food.

Imagine a baguette-based sandwich.

But tastier.

With eggs and pate and lots of tasty herbs.

You’re now imagining a banh mi.

The best banh mis are usually found at on-the-corner street food stalls, with no branding, no online presence, and no major fuss.

But if you wanna eat a banh mi in a cafe (cos sometimes you want to sit down, or be indoors, or want a drink with your sandwich), this is your best option. The baguettes are crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside, the fillings are tasty and generous, and the drinks are surprisingly good.

Make sure you get your mouth around their signature pork meatball banh mi. Or if you’re veggie, go for the mushroom banh mi instead. They have a wide range of local specialities, along with western-infused fusion stuff.

  • Address: 179 Lê Quang Đạo, Bắc Mỹ Phú, Ngũ Hành Sơn
  • Website
  • Average coffee price: $1.15USD
  • Average food price: $2.15USD for a banh mi

To sum up, your best options are:
