Capital One to Make ‘Payout’ to Acquire the Hopper Tech and Employees that Built Its Travel Portal

Capital One is making a “payout” to Hopper to acquire the technology infrastructure, supplier relationships, and 150 employees that built Capital One Travel, a Capital One spokesperson said Tuesday.

Skift reported exclusively in November that Capital One planned to buy the installed software from Hopper and bring over key staff. Neither Capital One nor Hopper confirmed the deal at the time.

“We are evolving our relationship with Hopper by bringing in-house the technology, talent and key capabilities we’ve built together over the last four years,” the Capital One spokesperson told Skift on Tuesday. “These capabilities include licenses, servicing contracts and supplier relationships.”

Hopper issued a statement noting that “Capital One will bring the travel portal in-house as it scales, and some of our team members who have long supported Capital One Travel will transition to ensure continuity.”
