Picnic Festival Generates More Than 2,000 Direct Jobs and Reserves 380 Hotel Rooms ⋆ The Costa Rica News
Picnic Festival Central America not only attracts thousands of music fans from all over Central America, but also an extensive network of workers and services that are activated behind the event.
Adrián Gutiérrez, director of Jogo, the company responsible for the festival, said that Picnic generates between 2,000 and 2,500 direct jobs during its two days, which start this weekend.
Meanwhile, around 380 hotel rooms are reserved each weekend to accommodate artists, technical teams, international press, and guests.
Reservations are mainly distributed among hotels such as the Intercontinental, Sheraton (both in Escazú), and the Hilton Garden Inn in Santa Ana.
According to Gutiérrez, these rooms are blocked almost a year in advance, once the dates of the event have been set. This is based on the historical number of people involved in the production.
Between 2,000 and 2,500 workers participate in the daily operation of the event each day, including security, cleaning, technical production, logistics, assembly, and customer service personnel.
More than 100 drivers are involved in transporting artists and event staff during the festival weekends alone.
Gutiérrez acknowledges that this year he is seeking to quantify the total impact of these indirect jobs more accurately. These also involve restaurants, nearby shops, logistics providers, and service companies.
But the labor movement is not limited to the days of the show, Gutiérrez emphasized. The festival’s setup begins at least a month earlier at the Pedregal Event Center in Belén.
During this period, dozens of suppliers and workers participate in the installation of stages, structures, electrical systems, sound, and lighting.
In addition to the economic impact, Gutiérrez emphasizes that the festival seeks to offer an experience that is different from a traditional concert, combining music, gastronomy, entertainment, and spaces for sharing.
“The festival is something you experience once a year. There are concerts throughout the year, but the festival is a complete experience,” he said.
With more than a decade of history, the event has established itself as one of the most important music festivals in the region.
