Rare Plans Tech Expansion, B2C Growth With Samhi Hotels

Rare India told Skift that the acquisition by Samhi Hotels will allow it to focus on tech and B2C expansion.

Rare India Founder Shoba Rudra spoke to Skift following the announcement last Friday that hospitality owner and asset management company Samhi Hotels plans to acquire a 70% stake in Rare, an asset-light platform for heritage hotels, retreats, and experiential stays. This marks Samhi’s entry into the experiential leisure segment.

Samhi and Rare India also announced that they signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Marriott that gives Rare exclusive rights to operate its portfolio of hotels under the Outdoor Collection brand by Marriott Bonvoy across India, Nepal, Bhutan, and Sri Lanka. 

This will represent the operational core of this acquisition, allowing Rare to focus on technology integration and distribution – “two of the most critical aspects which have always been a challenge,” Rudra said.
